Hostel
 
The Hostel is a place where many children belonging to different backgrounds, cultures, languages, relegions and places come together under one umbrella. As Adam Smith puts it, 'there is unity in diversity', all the boarders live like one big family.

Here is a brief report about the Boarding:

‘The Baldwin Boys' High School is more than a century-old, well established school with borading facilities. It is run by the Methodist Management since it was founded by the Methodist Missionaries. Presently Lt. Col. E.P. Dayal (Honorary) is also looking after responsibilites of hostel supreintandent.

The total strength of the school is about 3,000 children and the capacity of the boarding is for 200 children.

Where is the Boarding situated? It is easily approached from bus-station, airport, railway station etc.

  • Distance from the City Railway Station to school is about 5 kilometers
  • Distance from the City Bus Station to school is about 5 kilometers

  • Distance from the school to M. G /Brigade Roads is 1 km and to Commercial Street is about 1.5 km.

Dormitories
There are two separate dormitories viz:
Junior-cum-Middle Dormitory housing children from Nursery to Standard 6 and Senior Dormitory - housing children from Standard 7 - 10 .

The dormitories are furnished with cots/mattresses for each boy and there are attached bathrooms and toilet facilities with running water available 24hours. They also have a solar water heater facility so that the children can enjoy hot-water during all seasons.

Junior-cum-Middle dormitory children are taken care of by an experienced matron and the senior children, by an experienced Warden who reside in the campus itself. Besides, there are Attendents who look to the cleaning of the dormitories, bathrooms, etc. Dry cleaner and a Dhobi come on weekly basis to collect the children’s dirty clothes.

Attention is given to children on all areas - Academically, spiritually and physically:

Academics
Boarders are supervised by the warden/matron during the study time; those who are weak are given special coaching by tuition teachers, after the school hours.

Moral/Spiritual
Apart from their daily morning devotion time, Christian children attend Sunday school at Richmond Town Methodist Church. Also, all the senior dormitory children attend the evening service.


Medical
The Nurse is a full-time staff member of the school and resides in the campus and is available to children round the clock. There is a doctor couple also appointed by the school. However, during an emergency or serious illness, the boys are sent to the well-known CSI hospital, which is about 3 kilometers away from school, for further medical care and assistance.

Entertainment
The boarding has facilities of indoor games viz: Carom, chess, Table tennis, Chinese checkers. Television. Internet etc. Once in a term, the children are taken out on excursion.

Daily Schedule of a boarder from Monday - Friday:
Rising Time - 0600 hours
Devotion/Tea - 0645 hours
Study time - 0700 - 0800 hours, 1800 - 1940 hours and 2015 -2115 hours.
Breakfast - 0800-0820 hours
School - 0830 - 1600 hours with lunch hour from 1245 - 1300 hours.
Evening Tea - 1630 - 1640 hours
Games - 1640 - 1730 hours
Dinner - 1940 - 2015 hours

Children retire to bed at 2130 hours.

Daily Schedule of a boarder on Saturday and Sunday (Holidays)
Late rising - 0715 hours
Breakfast ~ 0830 hours
Study time - 0930 - 1 100 hours

After Lunch time
  • Letter writing on a biweekly basis. Besides, there is a computer facility for sending e-mail messages to keep in touch with the near and dear ones.
  • Personal cleaning of cupboards, etc
  • Outing for shopping/movies on special permission
  • Barber and Cobbler attend to thef boys on Saturdays

Dining hall/ Food
A separate, spacious dining hall accommodates 200 chairs and 50 tables. Clean drinking water (aqua-guard water filter) is supplied to the boarder.

Two experienced dieticians look into providing well-balanced, nutritious food to the boarders. The Cooks, helpers and the bearers contribute towards the cleanliness and maintenance of the dining hall. The daily menu consists of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, curds, egg, milk, coffee, tea, soup etc.

Food timings
0645 hours: Morning Coffee/ Ragi Porridge
0800 hours: Breakfast
1630 hours: Evening Tea
1930 hours: Dinner

Other facilities
A big playground, a swimming pool, volleyball/basket ball courts, skating rink etc., are in the school campus itself and the boarders enjoy these to the maximum.

Games
It is compulsory for the boarder, to play from 1640 - 1730 hours daily after school hours, although they have a period of physical education during their school hours. Most of the boarders belong to various school teams viz. football, hockey, cricket, volleyball, basketball etc. These Children have regular exercises in the morning.

Visitor's Time
Authorized visitors/relatives visit their wards on holidays and every Tuesday between 1630 - 1800 hours and on Saturday between 1600 – 1900 hours.

Month-end
During the last weekend of every month (Friday from 1600 hours to Sunday 1600 hours), the guardians/parents/relatives take their wards to their houses.
